Salmon fishing in Scotland

The summer season is ideal for fishing in Scotland that includes opportunities to catch salmon and trout, either in the sea or rivers that abound in its territory.

Keep in mind that fishing is the most important participation sport in the country, especially during vacations. On the west coast there are hundreds of small rivers, swollen streams and lakes, while in the east are the salmon rivers such as the Tay, Tweed, Dee and Spey.

Further north is Caithness and Sutherland, which is a mosaic of streams of lakes and rivers. And in the central area around Glasgow and Edinburgh, you will find some lakes and rivers within minutes of the urban centers.

To the south near the border with England are some exceptional fisheries, such as the tweed on the east coast known for its salmon. To the west are the Solway Rivers, which are famous for their sea trout, as well as large stunted salmon.

For example, the River Dee is one of the great classics of salmon rivers. It rises in the Cairngorms and flows through Braemar, Ballater, Aboyne and Banchory in Deeside to the North Sea in Aberdeen.

Also popular is fishing along the River Spey, as well as the Findhorn, Island, Lossie and Deveron rivers. The Spey is one of Scotland's classic salmon rivers that flows 100 kilometers to the west reaching Grantown. The river is kind as up to 8.000 fish are caught each year.
