The Ländler, a typical German dance

Germany is a country with a great musical tradition and the birthplace of excellent artists. Music is present in all religious or popular celebrations and unites people in joyous rounds of typical dances.

One of the more traditional dances is the Ländler, very popular in Bavaria, southern Germany. It is actually a couples dance, with very intense dance movements, where the rhythm is marked when stepping.

It was originally a graceful peasant dance that was danced in compass ¾ with rough turns in a great hall and spread throughout much of Europe during the XNUMXth century, but it was only danced in rural settings because it was frowned upon in 'serious' settings. '.

In 1787 Vicent martin introduced in his opera 'Weird thing" dances that he called "langaus" and that participated in the characteristics of the Ländler and from that moment he settled in some dance halls.

When entering the urban environment, the Ländler it was transforming and becoming the waltz, which is why it is considered its origin.

One of the fundamental scenes of the film 'The sounds of music' (The rebellious novice), is when Maria and Captain Von Trapp manifest their love while dancing this rhythm that continues to sound in modern Germany.
