Traditional German clothing: the Lederhosen and the Tracht

Although Germany never occupied a prominent place in fashion, its typical costumes and traditional clothing are nevertheless very popular and continue to this day with some variations but as colorful as in the past.

Of the traditional German clothes we had already told you about the dirndl, a typical dress that is made up of various garments, as well as the gamsbart, that decorative tuft with which hats are adorned.

Of course, we couldn't put aside the Lederhosen, those leather baggy pants widely used by German men in the alpine areas and in nearby towns. This traditional clothing was also worn at one time, by young Germans until they were 16 years old and preferred by horsemen, hunters, and mountain dwellers in southern Germany.

Leather pants were less decorated than other typical clothing, but are characterized by their front braces and lapels.

Finally, we must mention the costume word that literally means 'what takes away' and that in such a broad way serves to designate a suit that is made up of very specific elements: a hat, a jacket, a vest, low shoes and, most importantly, the leather pants, the famous Lederhosen. Linen or loden were mostly used for this typical costume, fabrics that are warmer..

In each region the Tracht is different and has its own details to differentiate it from those of the other regions, but all keep the mark of German tradition.
