Beaches to visit near Athens

Vouliagmeni Beach

On the southeast coast of the Glyfada district in Athens, there are many beautiful beaches. Unfortunately many of them are private so you have to pay entrance to enjoy them, but these are some of the best Athens beaches:

  • Voula Beach: it is a sandy beach with many sun loungers, umbrellas and showers. It is a teenage beach that also attracts families as the waters are calm and there is a store to stock up on everything, food and beach items.
  • Alimos Beach: it usually has a lot of people on weekends since it is free. It has a beautiful marina nearby to appreciate the beautiful natural scenery with bars, taverns and cafes.
  • Glyfada Beach: It is on the southeast coast and is one of the most popular during the summer season as it is full of clubs and bars.
  • Kavouri Beach: it is a little further from Glyfada beach and some corners are free to enter and others where you pay and have a deck chair and an umbrella.
  • Varkiza Beach: Varkiza is a coastal city 22 km from Athens, quite popular in summer. There are bars, seafood restaurants and a clean sand beach.
  • Sounio Beach: It is a beach a little further from Athens as it is 65 km. It is the gateway to the Aegean Sea and is the site of the Temple of Poseidon, the best point to contemplate the sunset.
