The Parthenon is one of the most popular Greek buildings but maybe you repeat its name a thousand times and you still don't know what you are referring to. What is the parthenon? What was it for? What year is it from? Well, if you go on vacation to Greece then write down these facts about this iconic building from ancient Greece:

The Parthenon is what remains of a temple of athena, the patron goddess of the city of Athens. It is a temple then that is located within the Acropolis, on a gentle hill that overlooks the modern city and is considered one of the finest examples of Doric architecture. This architecture is simple in style, without much adornment, with smooth columns. It is known that the building was designed by Pidias, Iktinos or Kallikrates, it has several names, a famous sculptor who worked with the support of Pericles, the great Greek politician who, it is said, founded the city and was partly responsible for the Golden Age from Greece. Inside the temple there were many treasures but the main object was the huge statue of Athena designed by the same sculptor and made with gold and elephant ivory.
