April 25, Italy's Liberation Day

April 25th

Tomorrow saturday is April 25, a special day in Italy since the Liberation day or the Festa della Liberazione. It is a public holiday, there is no work, and if you are in Italy you will see that there are ceremonies, historical re-enactments and different celebrations.

What this public holiday in Italy remember it is the end of the Second World War so in many cities, towns and villages there will be events: fairs, festivals, parades, concerts. The good thing, from a tourist point of view is that museums and archaeological sites are open. You can find some stores closed but what matters is open. Another thing to keep in mind this week in Italy is that May 1, Labor Day, falls a week later so Italians put together mini-tours that run from April 25 to May 1.

It must be taken into account because there are so many days there is a lot of internal tourism and tourist sites can get a bit overcrowded. Before moving, check that the site is open and does not have soooooo people. Especially those places related to World War II in Italy like the Montecassino Abbey, where was the great battle near the end of the war, between Rome and Naples. Here are other sites in Italy linked to the war are the Nettuno Cemetery, south of Rome and the American Cemetery in Florence.

Finally, if you are in Venice tomorrow the Festival of San Marco, by the city's patron saint, with a colorful gondola regatta and a religious procession to the Basilica of San Marco.
