Garden of Ninfa, very close to Rome

Nymph's Garden

If you like gardens, I really love them, you must know the garden in these photos: it is about the Nymph's Garden. It is located in the province of Latina, in central Italy, on an area of 105 hectares. It is barely 40 kilometers from the city of Roma so it's very close. By car it is a short trip but by public transport it can be a bit more difficult to get there. But it is worth the effort. Ninfa is the name of an ancient town that dates back to the Romans but it was during the Middle Ages that it was abandoned, amid looting, attacks and malaria plagues.

Part of the private villa of a noble family, the Caetani, was recovered by their descendants in the XNUMXth century and they were the ones who transformed the ruins of a town into a beautiful and alive Botanical Garden. Today it is a site that is no longer private but is managed by a foundation. Plants, trees and flowers grow on walls, towers and ramparts, with exuberance and freedom. The frescoes in what remains of a church are adorned with roses, there are bananas, ducks, maples and much more. The only thing you must bear in mind is that the opening is limited, unless you go in a large group, and you cannot walk alone on your own, you must do it with tour.

Nymph's Garden 2

El Jardín de Ninfa opens the first weekend and the third Sunday of each month, between April and October, and closes for a couple of hours at noon. Admission is 10 euros and you can buy tickets in advance, in Rome, at Palazzo Caetani. Once the guided tour is finished and paying a little more you can also visit the small and beautiful walled garden that is at the foot of an old castle. How do you get there on public transport? You take the train to Latina, half an hour from Rome, and get off at Latina Scalo station. From here there is a bus but it passes very occasionally so it is best to take a taxi. Calculate about 15 or more euros.
