The Stabian Baths, in Pompeii

Stabian Baths

When I was a child I saw the series on television The last days of Pompeii. I was impressed! That's why one of the first things I did when traveling to Italy was to get to know Ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, today World Heritage. They are in the province of Nápoles and they are two Roman cities that were left under a thick blanket of ash after the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in 79 AD These ashes precisely allowed them to remain in very good condition, a true treasure for archeology.

The archaeological remains are made up of streets, houses, a forum, different buildings, temples, various sports facilities, theaters, brothels and hot springs. Among the latter today I will highlight the calls Stabian hot springs. These are the oldest thermal baths in Pompeii as they date back to the XNUMXth century BC The buildings are divided into a part for men and another part for women and it was a marvel since it had central heating by means of hot air that circulated between the walls and below the floor (what a regression the Middle Ages, isn't it?). Dressing room, gym, a warm room, a cold water pool, a hot room with a huge bathtub and a fountain and even a large outdoor pool, this is how the Stabian Baths were formed.

The building was restored in recent years and since March of last year the Stabian Baths have reopened to the public permanently. Before, the women's section could not be visited and since then it has.
