Christmas dinner in Holland

Christmas dinner is the main meal traditionally eaten on Christmas Eve or Christmas. And in Holland it is a little different from customs in neighboring countries.

A typical Dutch tradition is that of 'gourmet', a long evening event, where small groups of people sit together around a gourmet to use their own tray and fry and season their food in very small portions.

The host has prepared the finely chopped vegetables and the different types of meat, fish and shrimp and prawns. Everything is accompanied by different salads, fruits and sauces. The origin of gourmet is probably in the former Dutch colony in Indonesia.

The Dutch also enjoy more traditional Christmas dinners, especially meats and game such as roast beef, duck, rabbit and pheasant.

This is usually served with different types of vegetables, potatoes, and salads. In recent years, the traditions of Anglo-Saxon countries have become increasingly popular, especially the English-style turkey.
