Get to know Stockholm Central Station

T-Central in Station

La Stockholm Central Station (Stockholms Centralstation) is the largest railway station in Sweden located in the Norrmalm district on the Vasagatan / Central Plan.

Opened July 18, 1871, it is the train station is the largest in Sweden (not counting metro stations), with more than 200.000 daily visitors.

Because it is the busiest station in Sweden, engineers use the heat generated by thousands of visitors every day to help heat a nearby office building.

Trains run from their own tracks along Ostkustbanan via Tomteboda, and after Karlberg station they go underneath the other tracks to avoid conflicts with long-distance and regional trains.

Stockholm Central Station has been the natural hub for commuters since 1871. Stockholm's commuter and long-distance trains come and go from here. The Cityterminalen bus station is right next door, and a pedestrian crossing connects to the central metro station, the center of the underground system.

The main entrance to Central Station is Vasagatan where you will find a ticket office, a police station, an exchange office, ATMs, ticket offices, public toilets, internet, and several restaurants, cafes and shops.

Airport buses and national buses leave from here. Arlanda Express departs from the north side of Central Station. The downstairs lounge has a walkway that connects to the central station, commuter train platforms and the central metro station.

There is a taxi center outside the main entrance of Vasagatan Central Station, where you can get help finding a taxi, for example with child seats.
