Eat kangaroo meat

Kangaroo meat

The only rare meat that I have eaten outside of beef, lamb and goat is llama meat. The llama is a typical animal of the Andes and in the north of Argentina you eat a lot so you go to a restaurant and you have a menu with a lot of llama meat. And it is delicious. I thought it would be tough and sinewy but no, it looked like a piece of beef tenderloin. And what will the Kangaroo meat? Australia is a producer and consumer of kangaroo meat and in fact, since 2010 it has exported to 55 countries.

The kangaroo meat that is eaten comes from both farm kangaroos and wild kangaroos. While the kangaroo hunt is protected by law, it is allowed to hunt a certain number of animals for commercial purposes. While it is something that animal rights activists criticize all the time, the law is still in force. According to more or less current data, the number of kangaroos in Australia is between 35 and 40 million. Per year the number that can be hunted is also around 5 or 6 million and farmers get tired of saying that kangaroos are a pest. Anyway, many of them go to the slaughterhouse so on your trip to Australia do not forget to try some meat, if you are not vegetarian, of course.

But it is not that all Australians eat kangaroo, the percentage is still low in family consumption and it is something that is found more in restaurants. Part of the kangaroo meat also goes to the production of dog food.

I tried it when I was traveling there and it tastes very similar to cow liver.
