Every Australian city has its own, so no matter what your destination is, it's a matter of figuring out which festival you can't miss in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Tasmania and more. Let's see which are the best Australian cultural festivals:

  • Sydney: in January there is a very rich program of open-air events of music, dance, theater, cinema and art in general. Its about Sydney Festival, an event that lasts three weeks and includes 80 special mini-events with more than 500 artists from all over Australia and abroad.
  • Canberra: in February the National Multicultural Festival. Four days with the best of local and international music, dance, food and arts.
  • Perth: between February and March the Perth International Arts Festival, the oldest in the entire southern hemisphere and the best of all Western Australian cultural events. Australian Aboriginal arts are included.
  • Adelaide: in March the Adelaide Festival of the Arts, created in 1960. It falls in autumn, a warm but not overwhelming season.
  • Tasmania: the date is in March and the event is called the 10 Days on the Island. There are over 50 events across the island of Tasmania featuring dance, music, visual arts, literature, food, movies, and much more.
  • Darwin: the date is in August, this is the Darwin Festival.
  • Brisbane: the appointment is in September with the Brisbane Festival held every two years.
  • Melbourne: The Melbourne International Arts Festival takes place in October, 17 days with free indoor and open-air events.
