Places to dive in the United States

Florida diving

Admittedly, the Great Barrier Reef (on the east coast of Australia) and the Blue Hole (Belize) are two of the most impressive diving spots in the world. But, the United States also has some reefs that are so beautiful and exciting at the same time.

Med Lake, Arizona

Lake Mead area is one of the best areas for freshwater diving located on the Colorado River, 48 km southeast of Las Vegas.

It is ideal for year-round diving, although it is best to avoid the summer months if you want to avoid the crowds and get the best visibility (go in late fall or early spring).

There the visitor can rent motor boats and luxury yachts. Some of these options include the Lake Mead Marina (south of Lake Mead), Las Vegas Marina Bay (west of Lake Mead), and Callville Marina Bay (north of Lake Mead).

Ginnie Springs, Florida

It is a very popular dive site in North Florida, located not far from Gainesville. It attracts tourists due to the beautiful area and crystal clear waters.

There are a total of four dive sites, including the main dive site which has underwater caverns with beautiful formations. During the summer months, you can also go scuba diving along the Santa Fe River which offers a wide variety of diving opportunities throughout the year. Diving equipment rental is offered there, as well as kayak and camping tents.

John Pennekamp Coral Reef Park, Florida Keys

It is located on Cayo Largo and is probably one of the best places to dive in the US with children. John Pennekamp has a clean aquarium and shallow water for the little ones to dive safely.

The beauty of diving at John Pennekamp lies in its beautiful reefs teeming with marine life, and other activities on offer, such as diving, fishing, camping, kayaking, and glass bottom walks.

East Shore of Maui, Hawaii

Hawaii is one of the best diving destinations in the world and Maui is without a doubt one of the best places to dive in the US. Maui may not be the cheapest place in the US to go scuba diving, but the marine life off the coast of Maui is truly unmatched.

Best of all, many of the dive sites on Maui are easily accessible to visitors, and you won't even have a great chance to see the migrating humpback whales that travel during late winter.

Some of the best dive sites on the Maui shoreline are found on the northwest and southwest shores of Maui, and include Kaanapali Beach and Kapalua Bay in Lahaina, Makena Landing Beach Park, Puu Olai Beach, and Ulua Beach Park in Kihei.
