Myths about black cats in ancient Egypt

Since its existence is known, black cats were considered by people as magical animals. In ancient Egypt they were so revered that they were considered sacred animals and they were adored by the people. They were related to the cult of the goddess Bastet. Killing them was considered a crime and it was customary that when a family cat died, it was mummified and the whole family went into mourning as if it were one of them.

 
However These beliefs were disappearing and during the Middle Ages black cats were associated with witchcraft and evil, believing that these were witches who took the form of animals to approach people without them realizing what was happening. For this reason they were persecuted, hunted and burned, But it was never taken into account that with the great decrease in the cat population, there was a sharp increase in the rat population that spread epidemics and diseases to a large part of the population.

Thus In ancient Egypt this was an animal that went almost immediately from being a kind of god to being a witch.
