Within religion Shintoist in Japan, highlights their dances. And one of them is the call Kagura, which literally means 'music of the gods'. The term Mi-Kagura is used to distinguish the court style from the rural styles, known as Sato-Kagura ('Kagura of the Country') or also Okagura.
Kagura comprises music and dance in a mix of ancient shamanistic rituals and courtly praise. This type of ceremony is celebrated in the court sanctuary and in specific temples on December 15 in the presence of the Emperor, and on some other special occasions.
Formerly the ritual took several days, but today it has been shortened to only 6 hours at night, and 12 songs are performed accompanied by dance pieces.
