Okayu, the Japanese rice pudding

Do you like rice pudding? Is named oku or kayu in Japan and is known as an easily digestible dish. It is a simple dish seasoned with salt, but it can be more nutritious when cooking with chicken, vegetables, etc., or the addition of a large number of ingredients.

The truth is that Okayu is easy to digest, so people in Japan usually eat it when they have a cold or so on.

Makes: 2 servings

Ingredients:
• 1/2 cup Japanese rice (short grain rice)
• 3 cups of water (adjust the amount of water based on your preference)
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• for coatings (optional):
• chopped green onion
• Sesame seeds
• umeboshi (pickled ume pickles)

Preparation:

Wash the Japanese rice and strain it. Put the water and rice in a heavy-bottomed pot or crock pot. Leave it for about 30 minutes. Cover the pot and set it on medium-high and bring to a boil. Lower the heat to low and cook the rice for about 30 minutes. Stop the heat and let it steam for about 10 minutes.

Season with salt and serve in individual rice bowls. Put ingredients, such as chopped green onion, sesame seeds, and / or umeboshi if you want.
