Diving and Fishing in Máncora

mancora

Thanks to collision of the cold sea current de Humboldt and the warm El Niño (Equatorial) current, in the coastal area of Piura and Tumbes you can find an impressive amount of fish, along with this factor there is the Bank of Máncora, a place offshore that houses an important amount of flora and marine fauna.

  • Diving:

In the Piura and Tumbes area Most of the divers go in search of the Grouper or the Fortuno, large fine fish that usually prowl the coast of Máncora, not many meters from the shore and in some "shallows" known only to local divers.

Although the visibility is not comparable to that of the Caribbean Sea for example, it is sufficient to spot various types of fish previously named. A good day of visibility can reach up to 7 meters approx and a normal day reaches 5 meters approx.

The preferred sectors of the divers are in front of the Las Pocitas Beach, in Vichayito the sector known as Balerío Peña Mala and to the south near Cabo Blanco. Towards Tumbes we have Punta Sal, a well-known diving and fishing place, as well as some bass in front of the beach known as Peña Redonda. It is advisable to go with a local guide or diver for a better location.

En Máncora and its surroundings There is not much diving equipment to rent or buy. We recommend bringing your own equipment, a long wetsuit of at least 3-2mm, because although the water is not cold at all, after a while submerged it feels cold.

  • Fishing:

In addition to shore fishing, the most appreciated fishing here is the High fishing, since you can bring really impressive prey such as giant tunos and marlin of more than 100 kgs.

Various companies and local fishermen offer fishing services in the Máncora, Punta Sal and Cabo Blanco area, the latter still holding a world record in the Black Merlin fishing.
