Portugal it is still one of the cheapest European countries to visit, especially in the low season, which luckily is in winter.

In this sense, here are some more reasons why one can travel to this beautiful country during the season.

History

With 12 UNESCO World Heritage sites dotted throughout the country, it's easy to immerse yourself in the history of one of the oldest countries in Europe.

In the north, you have to go to the Historic Center of Porto, with several architectural styles enclosed within the 14th century Fernandina wall. To see how the royal knights lived, you must visit the Convent of Christ in the city of Tomar, an imposing castle that was once the seat of the Portuguese Knights Templar.

Renting a car can provide a lot of flexibility to get to the sites, but it is not necessary. Portugal is very well connected with trains and buses that will take the visitor anywhere they need to be - and very inexpensively.

Lisbon

Spending a few days in the Portuguese capital is like having an interactive history lesson like visiting the Lisbon History Center, in the Palace Square. And for a nostalgic tour, tram 19 will go through various neighborhoods of Lisbon.

Getting off in the elegant Chiado neighborhood and heading to Café A Brasileira, where poets, writers and artists have made their way in and out of its doors for more than a century, is quite a delight.

Meal

Each region has its own unique style of cuisine: fish and seafood are found along the coast, while inland, meat and sausage dishes abound. And throughout the country, various dishes of bacalhau (dried salted fish cod).

You have to forget about the diet. When you are in Portugal, they do what the locals do: relax, eat, drink and enjoy.

Wine

If you like branco (white), red, green, pink, everything is here. Portugal's most famous wine has traditionally been the port of the Douro region, however, in recent years, the country has been producing some great wines from the Alentejo, Beiras and Estramendura regions, to name a few.

Beach

During the winter months, the visitor has the beaches in his hands. The Algarve is famous for them, but that is not the only area to find spectacular sand and surf. You have to take a look at Costa Verde and Costa da Prata (Silver Coast) that offer even incredible waves, especially in the winter months.
