fables-russia

In the Russian culture there are different rites and stories about superstitions that are still passed from father to son today. Although many of these practices have been disappearing over time, there are still some that continue to be carried out as a way not only to respect traditions but to connect with the past and the ancestors of Russian families.

The swan, the catfish and the crab

This fable and tradition of oral transmission from Russia it tells that a swan, a catfish and a crab agree to pull a cart. The three of them hooked together to pull but try as they might, it didn't budge an inch.

The cart is not actually very heavy but the three animals pull to different sides. As the swan seeks to pull up, the crab pulls back and the catfish toward the water. Who is to blame that they cannot move the car?

This fable is used as a way of explaining to young people that sometimes the partners cannot agree and that brings suffering. Before starting a joint project, make sure that everyone pulls towards the same side and has the same objectives, otherwise sooner or later there will be inconveniences and the venture will not advance.
