Traditional Russian dances

Traditional Russian folk dance is as broad and diverse as the nation itself. Although most foreigners identify traditional Russian dance with the stomping and bending characteristic and of Slavic oriental dance styles, many forget the dance traditions that originated from Turkic, Ural, Mongolian and Caucasian peoples. they are also natives of Russia.

One of this dances is barynya, which literally means "homemade"; is a traditional Russian folk dance that combines chastushka (a traditional folk poem that is often in the form of satire) with lively dancing.

The dance usually has no fixed choreography and consists mainly of fancy stomping and squatting. The refrain "Barynya, barynya, sudarynya-barynya" (landlady, landlady, lady-patron), is also often repeated throughout the course of the dance.

It also excels Kamarinskaya which is a traditional Russian folk song and dance that was used in the orchestral work Mikhail Glinka «Kamarinskaya» (1848).

And the Chechotka ; a traditional Russian "tap dance" performed in Lapti (bast shoes) and under the self-accompaniment of a Bayan (accordion).
